Barry M Concrete Effects Kingsland Road : Review

Hey there beauty lovers, today I've got the (not so) new Barry M Concrete Effects in Kingsland Road all swatched up and reviewed for you.

When the textured effect nail polishes began to surface, I sighed and glanced back at my mostly empty piggy-bank. I really didn't want to spend too much on nail effects unless I knew that they were 100% worth it. Then, all of a sudden (duh, duh, duh!), Barry M launched their £3.99 textured nail effect and I, after quickly pinching myself to make sure I wasn't imagining it, went and bought one of them. My chosen colour is a pale pastel pink that looks a lot like Barry M's Strawberry Ice Cream from their "normal" (?) nail paints range. The entire effect takes up to two thick coats or three mid-thick coats to show up appropriately. Since I haven't tried any of the other colours, I don't really know if it's just the colour I picked or if it's like this with the entire collection.

The first coat was rather transparent, so much so that I got away with is in school (hehehehe). My tips were very visible as you can see in this picture.

Tips less visible. Check. Teachers spotted my polish yet. No...(one more coat to go)

Finally, after all my hard (and patient) work not only did this look not pass for school, but it also looked good. When I went shopping the next day, a few strangers asked me where my nail polish was from. This included a women who worked in Superdrug and I just stared at her like o-O .

So, overall I really liked the colour, loved the effect and for £3.99, I'm over-impressed, which is always a positive sign. The only down side to this polish was that I could not add a top coat as it spoils the effect so it wasn't the longest lasting (2 days and it began to chip :'(  ). Other than that, I think I shall go and buy more of these since I've got my eye on Ridley Street (mint green). I might even splurge in the new nail art pens that Barry M has launched.
Have you tried these yet? If so, what colour did you use? If you liked this post please follow my blog.

For those of you who didn't get the hint, Barry M is available as Superdrug. You can also purchase it in Boots or at www.barrym.com. Don't tell me you aren't spoiled for choice.

The Host : Film Riview + Story Overview

Hey there film fans, today I watched the much awaited film, The Host.
I didn't consider even for a minute that the film might be even a quarter of a fraction as good as the book, but it was. I enjoyed it so much, I'm going to give you a very detailed description of what happened right here:

It starts with the planet Earth rotating in outer space and a voice explaining the alien invasion. The it cuts to a scene of a the non-host Meliney running away from the Seeker and some other hosted people. She decides that she would rather die than be caught so she jumps out of a window from the third or fourth floor of the abandoned hotel where the scene takes place. The hosted (people with aliens in them) people take her back and she is shown to have suffered a lot of damage, but is still alive. A healer heals her with some magical spray and inserts Wonderer inside her. The impatient Seeker begins to push Wonderer to remember Meliney's memories so that she can locate the rebel group, who are fighting against the aliens and who Meliney is part of. Wonderer begins to look inside her memories only to discover that Meliney is still there and is fighting her from the inside. Eventually, Wonderer stops giving out information to the Seeker because she discovers love through Meliney's memories of Jared and Meliney's brother, Jamie. She tears up a picture of the area where the rebels are. The Seeker hints her suspicion of Meliney fighting back by following Wonderer when she goes out so see a lake. She casually tells Wonderer that Jared, who's name Wonderer had already given to her, has been identified and might even be caught by her. This causes Meliney to take over her own body for a split-second and attack the Seeker, who sprays (...?) her unconscious.

When she wakes up, Wonderer is told by the Seeker that she will be transferred to another body and the Seeker herself will look through Meliney's memories before killing her. She is told to stay indoors until the next day when this will take place. Panicked, Meliney successfully convinces Wonderer to run away from there. They manage to take (not steal) a car from a very old man and then begin their journey to Wonderer's healer, whom she believes to be good. As they make their journey, Meliney shows Wonderer her memories and distracts her so that she can reach a desert, where the rebels' camp is supposed to be. Wonderer realises this as they reach the area as she has seen it in Meliney's memories before, but did not tell the Seeker about it because of her humane feelings. Her and Meliney argue resulting in their car crashing. Finally, Meliney says she has to find the camp in the desert because she promised Jamie she would come back. With no other options left, Wonderer begins to make the journey into the desert on foot, with a very small water bottle.

Meanwhile, the Seeker notices that Wonderer has escaped and begins to look through her belongings for clues to as to where she went. She discovers the torn up drawing of the desert and, using a super computer, manages to find the actual place that has been drawn. Then, she travels there at a very high speed in her shiny Volvo.

By now, Wonderer is deep into the desert and is exhausted and sun burnt. She drinks the last sip of her water and after a few minutes, falls unconscious because of the dehydration...

WE INTURUPT THIS BLOG POST TO TELL YOU THAT THIS BLOGGER HAS BEEN PERMANETLY TERMINATED FOR GIVING OUT SPOILERS. NOW YOU SHALL NEVER KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT UNLESS YOU READ THE BOOK OR WATCH THE FILM YOURSELF. HAHAHAHA!!!
__________________________________________________________________________________

Just kidding! But I seriously can't tell you what happens next because if any of you are like me, you will not watch the movie or read the book, which I really can't allow. So instead of telling you what happens, I'm going to tell you what I liked [:-)] and disliked [:-(] about the film.

Firstly, I loved how the story line was not changed and major main characters did not appear of disappear (Vampire Diaries, anyone?).  Also, the Souls were so cute and magical looking that a expected a unicorn to make an appearance at some point in the movie (but, alas, it did not). An added bonus was that the film made me cry when the murdered Souls are showed and when Wanda says she will sacrifice herself. This may not seem like such a big things to you guys, but believe me, I hardly ever cry in the cinemas due to the lack of tissues around, so The Host should really get an Oscar and a standing ovation for that.

Now for what I didn't like... Where was all the romance?!? I mean, yes, there was a lot of kissing, but it was all unwanted and often without any emotion! Had I not read the book beforehand, I would never have known that Ian loved Wanda until he admitted so. Also, why was it that the only characters who were developed were Wonderer's and the Seekers? I totally understand that the film was aimed at those who have actually read the novel, but, like the Twilight Saga, they missed out a lot of character history. Also, why was Ian's face wearing the same expression throughout the whole movie ( including the smooching scenes) ? It was like the guy had no feelings whatsoever!

Minus the downsides, I really did love this movie and I kind of wished that the book had a sequel. Unlike others, I won't compare it to Twilight because you can't compare aliens and vampires with each other.

Also, before someone asks me, my two most swooned over guys in the film were Jared and Ian's evil brother (whose name I did not manage to catch due to all the sighs coming from my mouth). Do comment below and tell me your and also include why, I'm hoping there are others out there who fall for the villains.

And remember, if you liked this post then follow my blog.
